Hey Golf Fans! The 20th Annual Golf Classic is coming soon. There really is no better way to having fun in the sun with a few of your closest friends, and best of all it's a great fundraiser for the Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross.

ASK Event at the Holiday Inn Great Lakes Ballroom A Terrific Success!

Thank you to everyone who attended and or supported the Northland Chapter Red Cross's first ever ASK event. It was a terrific success! Donations are still being accepted at the Northland Chapter office or online by clicking on the American Red Cross logo on the right.

2008 Annual General Membership Meeting on Wednesday May 21, 2008 at the Hermantown Public Safety Building

May 21, Wednesday at 6:00 pm is our annual meeting and volunteer recognition night. It will be held at the Hermantown MN Public Safety Building. The address is 5111 Maple Grove Road, at the Northwest Corner of Maple Grove and Lavaque Road. Same place as last year.

A full dinner will not be served, but we will have a Heater Meal of your choice! We also will have hors d’oeu vre.

Please come if you can, for 2007 has been very successful for our chapter and without all your help it never would of happened!

Promote Workplace Safety During North American Occupational Health and Safety Week – May 4th-10th

The Northland Chapter of the American Red Cross is encouraging businesses in our communities to take advantage of the annual North American Occupational Health and Safety (NAOSH) Week. The theme this year is “Safety is Good Business” and takes place May 4–10.

The week’s kickoff event is May 5 on Capitol Hill where Scott Conner, Red Cross Senior Vice President for Preparedness and Health and Safety Services, will be speaking. Participating with him will be Dawn Latham, American Red Cross Congressional Liaison.

The American Red Cross is working with the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) along with 35 other organizations and large corporations in an alliance to focus increased attention on reducing workplace injury and illness through promotion of NAOSH week.

Here are a few ways that your organization can participate:

Ensure employees and volunteers are trained to respond to emergencies and your worksites are hazard free.

Take advantage of this special occupational safety week and read the following online toolkit and make statements to your employees about the importance of safety on the job.

Host a special lunch hour safety presentation from the Red Cross, or promote Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED classes to all interested employees – not just those who are on the emergency response team.
