Disaster Action Team: What do we do?
What is DAT? DAT is brief for Disaster Action Team. Normally two disaster workers are on call 24 hours a day for a one week period to respond to single-family fires. This work requires approximately 20 hours of specialized training in disaster operations, the ability to respond to the emergency phone line, and be on-scene within a reasonable amount of time. On-scene DAT volunteers help family members by providing emotional support, basic care kits, children's comfort items, and write emergency shelter and clothing vouchers based on discussion with family of their needs.
For more information or would like to sign-up to volunteer you may do so simply by going to our Contact Us link or call any of the Northland Chapter offices.
